There has been a lot of reporting about an increase in home renovations by Canadians during COVID-19. The New York Times recently stated that “for many homeowners across the country, the coronavirus-imposed quarantine has presented an opportunity to head over to the local hardware store and launch a few DIY projects around the house”.
In that same spirit, Properly wanted to showcase one of its recently completed projects as inspiration for homeowners looking to upgrade.
The home, located in Kanata, a western suburb of Ottawa, was built in 2010. When this busy family of five was looking to upgrade their home to allow more space for the kids, they turned to Properly to get a cash offer on their current home and buy their next home. The result was a stress-free transaction that allowed the owners to leave the hassle to Properly and line up the closing dates with the purchase of a dream home.
The house is a detached, 2,268 square foot home located on a quiet street. Its unique floor plan features four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a family room with double-height ceilings. The house was in decent condition overall but had some wear and tear and an outdated kitchen.
Properly restored the home to like-new condition for the new home buyers. The renovation provides a modern yet timeless refresh. We leveraged our experience from over 100 residential preparation projects to select upgrades and materials that would appeal to the market.
Over two weeks, we completed the following upgrades:
i) replaced the flooring in the bedrooms & hallways
ii) refinished the hardwood
iii) New kitchen including refinished cabinets, new backsplash & new appliances
iv) completed some general maintenance
v) repainted the home throughout in a neutral grey
These strategic upgrades changed the first impression of this home from a home that needed some love to an updated home with modern finishes that will be enjoyed by a new family for years to come. The renovations cost just over $14,000, and the work took two weeks from start to finish.
